Button Bush Trail

Text and Photos by Walter Brooks

The Cape Cod National Seashore Park Salt Pond Visitor Center on Route 6 in Eastham is an ideal place for any resident or vacationer to explore Cape Cod.

One of the more delightful short excursions, after viewing the multitude of exhibits at the visitor center, is a 1/4 mile long walking path designed with which the blind or sight impaired person in mind.

It's is a "must" for everyone else as well since it continues for another mile-and-a-half across the Great Marsh on a boardwalk to Coast Guard Beach.

With the exception of that first 1/4 mile, it doubles as a bike trail and connects to the 20-mile long Cape Cod Railtrail which runs on the bed of our defunct railroad from Route 134 in Dennis to the South Wellfleet General Store.
