Three Sensational Sunrise Spots on Cape Cod

Always a wonderful view at Chatham Lighthouse Beach in Chatham. Photo by Maggie Kulbokas.

While sunsets tend to get all the attention, there is something to be said about the simple beauty of a sunrise, watching the cold, dark night give way to the gray of dawn and then erupt into a dazzling display of the days color. Whether you are a morning person or not, it is imperative to catch at least one gorgeous sunrise at some point in your life. And since the Cape faces east (the sun rises in the east), the views tend to be quite spectacular. Here are the best places to catch the sunrise on Cape Cod!

  1. Nauset Light Beach, Eastham: This wonderful beach has a picturesque view of the sunrise and, if you aren't a morning person, you don't really need to walk all the way to the beach to see the sunrise!
  2. Cahoon Hollow, Wellfleet: Another great beach that has massive dunes, Cahoon Hollow is a fantastic place to watch a sunrise. Take the walk down to the beach for a refreshing breeze to accompany your colorful morning!
  3. Chatham Lighthouse Beach, Chatham: With some unique views, Chatham Lighthouse Beach is a one-of-a-kind place to greet the day. For people who aren't really into mornings, but still want to see the sunrise, you can sit in your car and sip a cup of coffee, while watching the sun come up over the horizon!

The beaches listed here are all ocean beaches that directly face east, but that doesn't mean that other beaches on the Cape don't have sunrises to appreciate. Find your favorite!
