Sue's son Rob along with Betty have carried on the family ice cream tradition opening a Schoolhouse Ice Cream shop of their own in Burlington, MA., and have the same award-winning ice cream. They are open year-round and also serve lunch specials, soups and sandwiches. Rob and Betty opened in 2003, and are located at 216 Cambridge Street (Route 3A) in Burlington. Susan Stanley had a dream. She wanted to live on Cape Cod and own a seasonal business. She also loved ice cream. So in 1996, when she had the opportunity to buy Schoolhouse Ice Cream, she jumped at it.
Since then, she and Jack Hickey have produced the most sought after ice cream on lower Cape Cod....super premium ice cream, made with all quality ingredients. 45 different flavors in all, some sugar-free! 31 available in rotation at all times, including sherbet, low-fat yogurt and sorbets. Generous portions are always served, and now we even offer special "Doggie" sundaes, small scoop of vanilla and a milk bone... FREE!
All can be enjoyed in the shop, which is fully air conditioned, on the deck with its windchimes and birdhouses, or on the sweeping front porch filled with seasonal flowers. Schoolhouse Ice Cream has plenty of parking, is handicap accessible, and Neel Road Beach is a short walk away (@ the conrer of Rte. 28 & Neel Rd.).
So plan a stop at the Schoolhouse this season where you’ll “learn” to enjoy the best ice cream cones, sundaes, frappes, banana splits and quarts, all at competitive prices. We also have jimmies, great hot fudge and many other toppings.
